The 2nd Anniversary Celebration of the Macao Union Medical Center and the Medical and Health Forum successfully concluded

MACAU, October 9 - The two-day Medical and Health Forum, hosted by The Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “Macao Union Medical Center”), concluded successfully on 17 September.

The Medical and Health Forum was hosted by the Macao Union Medical Center, co-hosted by Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), the Chinese Medical Association, and the Chinese Association of Pancreatology, and co-organized by the Macao Health Bureau. It featured keynote speeches by Academician Zhou Jian, President of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and Professor Zhang Wenhong, Director of the National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases (Shanghai) and Professor at Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University. With the themes of “Empowering High-Quality Hospital Development through Academic Disciplines, Talent and Clinical Research Translation” and “Developing Infection Prevention Capabilities and Public Health Resilience in International Medical Centers,” they respectively shared their insights on the core engine role of high-quality hospital development and infection control and clinical decision-making pathways. The Forum delved into various medical domains, spanning pancreatic diseases, rare diseases, nursing, and comprehensive medicine, and offered thematic presentations, case sharing, symposiums, and seminars. The event hosted four parallel academic forums, drawing participation from a number of famous academicians, hospital presidents, well-known scholars, and representatives from various medical institutions from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

At the pancreatic disease sub-forum, Academician Zhao Yupei, President of the Chinese Medical Association and Honorary President of PUMCH, was invited to present opening remarks. Together with the participating experts and scholars, he engaged in thorough discussions on subjects including clinical diagnosis, precision treatment, and cutting-edge surgery for pancreatic diseases, and exchanged insights with them on the latest advancements and clinical experience in this field. At the rare diseases sub-forum, Zhang Shuyang, President of PUMCH, shared PUMCH’s reflections on the establishment of China’s rare disease system through the lens of rare cardiovascular diseases. This led to in-depth exchanges on prevention, diagnosis and treatment, medication, medical security, and collaborative mechanisms in the field. At the nursing sub-forum, discussions centered on the advancement of specialized nursing and the integration of innovation to reach further. Various experts covered topics related to the system and practical exploration of nursing practices, including clinical teaching, nursing care, quality control systems, and management models. At the comprehensive medicine sub-forum, scholars explored a range of subjects such as medical history, interventional therapy, and precision treatment, presenting pioneering reports on surgical procedures and clinical experience of imaging diagnostics with valuable viewpoints and sharing.

The Forum attracted over 1,000 local health care professionals, including doctors, dentists, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners, pharmacists, TCM pharmacists, pharmacy assistant technicians, nurses, clinical laboratory technicians, radiologic technicians, dietitians, and other interns.
